Piano Ladies

I bought the above on eBay - a dark blue vintage briefcase once belonging to piano teacher containing music books, examination information and certificates. These music scores are what I have used as my backgrounds in my latest Piano Ladies collection.

These are old cuttings also in the case. They are pieces of music torn from newspapers - there was also a Radio Times supplement with these, dating 1934.
Lovely colours and below some finished work inspired by these.

Raku Afternoon

Raku day.
Above are a couple of the pieces before they undergo the raku process.

Please see my Flickr Gallery for more raku work.

The work is placed in water (I think this is where the cracking of the glaze happens - but can't be sure). Then the work is rinsed, any stubborn areas scrubbed and there is your finished piece!

Above is the day's finished work, some good and some not so good.
Below are my favoutite pieces.

Monoprinting and Ink

Trying to work with the monoprinting and the ink together. In reality it is not working as well as it does in my imagination but I shall persevere...
The inverted images are interesting.
Lost my precious notebook with all my ideas so not a happy person today. This could be why I keep ruining the monoprints with the ink.

Back to the ceramics!!

The above are bisque fired are awaiting the glaze. Still experimenting at this stage so I don't really know what will happen.
These have had been painted with masking fluid (for a thicker line and to maintain the areas of black - the unglazed areas after the raku firing) and then the glaze has been added on top. I will be scratching into these to try out some different lines.
Pottery is such a frusrating long, long process... I have to put these up now as I can't wait another month. They aren't too exciting but I sure the finished product will be fine. I'm staying with my fashion illustration theme as I LOVE it!

Oh what a lovely day in london with my sister. Went to see the ballgown exhibiton at the V&A which is a must for anyone who likes a lond, pretty dress. Unfortunately photos weren't allowed and too many people to sketch, but did take a few photos of some other pieces in their costume collection...

Kingston John Lewis Gallery Launch

Kingston John Lewis have just opened a new gallery on the bridge, near the restaurant, and three other artists and I went to meet customers and to have a chat to anyone who may be interested hearing about our work. This was held in John Lewis's lovely riverside restaurant.
